April 2009

April over here at Southport is always the same every year. It always consist of four things, crawfish parties, our regular shows, our Jazz Fest shows and an extensive amount of drinking. But trust me I don't mind repetition or boozing at all. We started the month with our girl Christina Smith who decided to have a crawfish boil rehearsal party over here. But there was a twist, the grooms whole side of the family was from Boston. For being from up north they definitely embraced the mudbugs and of course the whiskey. The next night I pulled out my tuxedo for a formal dance for Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. I should use the word formal very loosley. All I got to say is girls in short cocktail dresses. On Good Friday we were up to our usual antics with a dual show with Band Camp and Five Finger Discount. The next night we had an old band from down here come in called The Boogie Kings, and they put on one hell of a show in front of a packed house. A special thanks goes to Glory Days productions and Mr. Herb Poche for that one. St. Lawerence Grammar School had a reunion in the front, it was definitely the best grammar school reunion we have ever had, and a special thanks goes to my Irish Channel boys, Sean and Kelly Burke. My boys the Rockenbraughs rocked out to a crowd of 200 people the following week, if you haven't seen or heard of them they are a fantastic band and they have a great set list of songs.

And now to all of our crawfish boil party's. We got taxed out with the crew from Weegeman and Dazet accounting firm, thanks Pam. We got a spark lit at Fritzchertz Electric, with a special thanks to Mandy and family. We had some plumbing done with Grant and Associates, with special thanks to Mr. Walt. I got sued by Porteous Law Firm, thanks Rebecca. I partied down with the Bennefield family, and had a great time as always at my favorite boil for Advanced Building Products, Chris Anderson you sir, are the man. We finished up the month with the crew from the Juanita Club, with thanks going to Mr. Bill.

And now to our Jazz Fest shows. We started Jazz Fest with my favorite guitar player, Mr. George Porter Jr. and his runnin' pardners. It is always a good crowd and my favorite Jazz Fest show. The Radiators rocked out on Friday night with a great crowd, shoot we even had the Governor of Kansas here. Then on Saturday we had another big crowd for our Brazilian dance show Casa Samba. I mean lets face it, who doesn't want to watch half naked women on stage dancing all over the place for up to 4 hours. I might be dead but I am not stupid. The 2nd week of fest time we started with our Radiators acoustic show. We have been doing this show for 4 years now and have had some great crowds in the past, but this was by far the biggest we have had over the years. On Thursday we welcomed in the Crewe of SNAFU for there annual event with the Rads. It was a great time as always except that my good friend Kingsley, who puts it on couldn't make because of a family emergency. My prayers are with you my friend. We still have 3 more fest shows but in our 5 plus years this is easily the best Jazz Fest we have had. It looks like more and more people are starting to cross the parish line for our shows. All I can say is chalk another one up for Southport, and God Bless Jazz Fest and "The Flavor Man."
